A resolution initiated by Green Party cllr Christine Oliver passed with cross-party support.
“Deal Town Council condemns in the strongest possible terms the decision by the MP for Dover & Deal to vote in favour of allowing water companies to discharge raw sewage into the sea & water courses at levels above EU regulation standard. Given that the constituency is predominantly made up of seaside towns that rely on tourism and clean & safe beaches, her decision is perverse in the extreme. We urge Natalie Elphicke MP to represent the people of Deal by voting against these measures when the issue returns to the House of Commons for a 2nd vote on 27th Oct.”We in the Green Party know that problems are not solved by pretence so we are watching and want real protection for our coast. We’ll keep using all channels to call for no directors of water companies to receive any bonuses until the water treatment infrastructure we should have had 40 years ago is built and operational. And for real legal environmental protections so even ministers can be prosecuted if/when they mess up.
